During a brief meeting Thursday, the Bulloch County Board of Education announced three finalists in the search for a school superintendent to replace Dr. Jessie Strickland, who retires in June.

The three candidates in the running for the position are Dr. Jose Gilberto Bosa Jr., executive director of Instructional Services with Clarke County School District; Dr. Lewis Dale Holloway Jr., the current Clark County school superintendent; and Dr. Michael Scott Winstead, director of curriculum and accountability with the Knox County, TN. school system.

By law, the school board must announce the finalists and release application information to the public two weeks before making a selection, said board

vice chairman Dr. Charles Bonds.

After several weeks, the board narrowed the choices down to three, he said. “We had quite a few candidates.”

Bosa, who has held his current position for five years, said on his application he is responsible for an annual budget of $10-$12 million, supervises eight directors who report directly to him, and has a current salary of $112,000.

He holds a Level 7 Georgia Leadership certificate.

Holloway has been in his current position for seven years. On his application he said he is responsible for an annual budget of $120 million, and supervises 2,000 employees, 44 of whom report directly to him. He holds a Level 7 Georgia Leadership certificate as well. His current salary is $160,000.

Winstead stated on his application that he has held his current position for six years and is responsible for an annual budget of $5 million. He is responsible for 40 employees, 18 of whom report directly to him. His current salary is $92,000 and he holds a Level 6 Georgia Leadership certificate.

Bonds said school board members are expected to announce their decision as to which candidate will be chosen as Bulloch County’s school superintendent around June 7.
