Two local elementary schools to be rewarded for recycling efforts by Rockin Eco Hero

Two local elementary schools are being rewarded for their recycling efforts with a presentation by Steve Trash, Rockin Eco Hero.
Trash, a nationally renown comedian, features a mixture of magic, fun and environmental education into his act as he travels around the country. He'll be performing at Mill Creek Elementary School and Mattie Lively Elementary on Thursday.
Mill Creek Elementary was selected because the school recycled more paper than any other school in the county for the second year in a row. Mattie Lively, meanwhile, was chosen because it had 100 percent participation in the Clean Challenge, meaning every student at the school completed projects in litter prevention, recycling and beautification.
In total, the Bulloch County School System recycled more than 86,000 pounds of paper, plastic milk bottles and electronics during the school year.
"Students at all the schools have done a fantastic job recycling," said Brooke Carney, director of Keep Bulloch Beautiful. "Our recycling programs and community projects on litter prevention and beautification have been successful, in large part, because of the efforts made by students and teachers throughout the county."
"Bulloch County Schools should receive an 'A' in environmental awareness," Carney continued. "They are setting the bar high for the rest of the community."
Trash was recently voted by online readers as one of Fast Company magazine's "Fast 50 Favorites - entrepreneurs making the world a better place to live." He's entertained and educated more than 10 million children all over the world.
