The latest national retailer preparing to open its doors in Statesboro is Tractor Supply. Located in the Kmart Shopping Center on Northside Drive, Tractor Supply is scheduled to open the morning of Jan. 14.
Store manager Ames Floyd and his staff are stocking shelves at a furious pace, working hard to get everything ready on time.
"We should be just fine," Ames said. "The staff is working diligently, and we are having merchandise delivered every day. We are very, very excited, and are looking forward to showing Statesboro everything that we have to offer."
Floyd joined Tractor Supply in April as a manager-in-training at the Dublin location. Prior to joining the company, he worked for Home Depot for a total of 15 years, serving the last six years as assistant manager.
"Ames is a United States Air Force veteran, and grew up on a farm in North Carolina," said District Manager Matt Gerig. "He is an avid woodworker, and lives the 'Out Here' lifestyle. Ames has put together a talented team of equine, ranching, farming and welding specialists, including former small business owners."
Floyd said the store will open without fanfare, but will have a grand opening two weeks later.
"Things will be relatively low key on the fourteenth," he said. "We will open the doors for regular business hours, and hope that people will come by and see what we have. I think they will be pleasantly surprised at all that we stock."
Ironically, Tractor Supply does not sell tractors. However, it does carry parts for tractors, lawn mowers, and ATV's.
The company also offers a comprehensive selection of merchandise for the health, care, growth and containment of horses, livestock and pets, a broad selection of agricultural products, and tools and hardware. In addition, the company sells light truck equipment, work clothing for the entire family, and an extensive line of seasonal products including lawn and garden power equipment products.
"As a growth minded company, Tractor Supply Company (TSC) is always looking for potential new store locations that are a good fit as far as the target market is concerned," said Rob Hoskins, a media relations representative for the company. "Concerning the location in Statesboro, this is especially true in that the area was attractive due to the part-time and hobby farmers, and horse owners in the area. The TSC product category expertise includes lawn and garden, and animal care products that service the needs of these customers.
"Tractor Supply Company stores are focused on supplying the lifestyle needs of recreational farmers and ranchers. The company also serves the maintenance needs of those who enjoy the rural lifestyle, as well as tradesmen and small businesses."
Tractor Supply Company is the largest retail farm and ranch supply store chain in the United States and has been operating in Georgia since 2000. Tractor Supply Company, listed on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange as TSCO, operates more than 1,000 stores in 44 states.
Tractor Supply Company stores are located in the outlying towns in major metropolitan markets and in rural communities.
