Patrino: Falcons off to a good start

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — Atlanta Falcons coach Bobby Petrino said the team’s final mini-camp practice Sunday ended a productive three-day schedule of five practices.

‘‘I think we got a lot done in the five practices we had,’’ Petrino said, adding the defense ‘‘had good energy’’ on Sunday.

‘‘We did a good job of taking things from (Saturday’s) practice and applying them to situations today,’’ Petrino said. ‘‘Their communication was a lot better today. I was happy with that. I think over all it was a good five practices.’’

Petrino said players now would move into their offseason training programs.

‘‘We have a lot of things to still work on,’’ he said. ‘‘I like how our offensive line is starting to get a feel for the scheme and what we are doing in the running and passing game. I think that is good.’’

Petrino also said he was encouraged by the team’s rookies.

‘‘Overall, you look at the rookies and see where they are going to contribute and where they are going to help,’’ he said. ‘‘I think we have a really good group coming in.’’
