Food Service inspections - August and September


The following are among the food service establishments inspected in August and September by the Bulloch County Health Department. The department scores on a 100-percentile scale. Kitchens are inspected at least every four months and are required to post their score sheets in public. The score and selected comments from health inspectors are included in each report. La' Berry Frozen Yogurt Cafe, 1100 Brampton Avenue, Suite G Score: 99

       Cutting boards must be smooth and easily cleanable. Clean bottom of fruit cooler. Inspector: Marlin Thomas.

BJ's Pit Stop, 193 West Main Street Score: 56

       Observed employee enter premises and talk on phone, then start cooking without washing hands; corrected on-site. Observed personal beverages on prep tables; corrected on-site. Slicer and tables in walk-in refrigerator are soiled. Observed potentially-hazardous food held using time as a public health control with no time marking. Chicken was at 114.6 degrees F. Employees stated it was cooked 30 minutes previously. Food must be held at 135 degrees F and above or use time as a health control device; corrected on-site. Laundry detergent stored in ware-wash sink; corrected on-site. Observed food employee wearing jewelry other than a plain ring on their hands/arms while preparing food. Wet wiping cloth not stored in sanitizing solution between uses. No copy of latest inspection report; corrected on-site. All clean utensils, pots, pans must be stored inverted. All surfaces should be smooth and easily cleanable. No pitting or rusted surfaces. Ware-washing sink is not used accurately. Inadequate wash and sanitizing chemicals available. Clean outsides of fryers, cabinets, trash cans, inside refrigerator and freezer. Observed water draining into pan under ware-washing sink. Clean floors in walk-in cooler and underneath equipment.        Observed open bag of rice with grains scattered outside of bag in dry storage. Observed pans with oil and food build-up on dry goods storage table. Store utensils inverted (handle-up); corrected on-site. Clean the fans, tables in the walk-in coolers, outside of equipment. Unused equipment should be cleaned or removed from kitchen. Clean ceilings around vents. Clean mats and floors in front of fryers. Some dead insects noted in firm, but in far fewer numbers than last inspection. Much improved. Keep up cleaning routines. All potentially-hazardous foods must be held at 41 degrees F or cooler. All potentially-hazardous foods must be held at 135 degrees F or warmer. Out of date milk, 9/19/11. Do not put poison out on floor. Need sneeze shield at barbecue station. Restrain hair. No hand/arm jewelry allowed. Fingernails cannot extend beyond fingertips. Store dirty cloths in sanitizer. Do not allow tong handles to contact food. All surfaces must be smooth and cleanable. No raw wood or tablecloths allowed in kitchen. Repair leaks in dish machine. Clean cooler bottoms and moldy food containers. Repair leak in ceiling. Replace light shields where needed. Building must be sealed to prevent rodents and roaches from entering.
