It looks as if two Statesboro buildings, which have housed restaurants that are now closed, are about to undergo renovation.

The first is the "old" location of the Burger King on Fair Road. Yes I know, it has been languishing as an empty Bubba Leone's for a couple of years or more, but a new day is dawning.

Look for construction to begin next week on the building as it is transformed into a Bojangles' restaurant. The location’s makeover will include a total renovation of the property’s interior and exterior.

“I am thrilled to bring Bojangles’ to Statesboro,” said Joe Dyer, co-owner of BoStarr LLC, owner of the Statesboro Bojangles'.  "Statesboro is a special town. I am really excited, because we are going to unveil a restaurant with a stunning exterior and a vibrant, yet warm, friendly interior.  Hopefully, we will become Statesboro’s favorite choice for breakfast anytime, lunch, dinner, and late nite eats!"

Dyer does not appear daunted by the number of chicken restaurants that are open in Statesboro already, including KFC, Popeyes, Zaxby's, and Ungle Shug's.

"The Statesboro Bojangles’ will attract customers with its proprietary, made-from-scratch Cajun chicken, fresh buttermilk biscuits and fixin’s," he said. "Bojangles’ offers a flavor profile unlike anything in the market. Meal options are available all day, from breakfast through dinner and late into the night."

The Statesboro location will be BoStarr’s second in the region. BoStarr already owns and operates a very busy Bojangles’ in Savannah. In the future, Dyer plans to have 12 to 15 Bojangles’ locations open in the Southeast Georgia area. Dyer is a veteran of the "quick serve" restaurant business having owned a number of Checker's franchises which he has sold.

First franchised in 1978, Bojangles’ now boasts over 370 total locations with 229 franchised and 124 corporately owned.  For more information on Bojangles, you can visit their website at www.bojangles.com.

The second building that is undergoing renovation is the former location of Chef Roe's on Highway 301 South. Apparently, it is going to be a Japanese restaurant. A spokesperson for the owner said the building is currently undergoing renovation and the plan is to open a Japanese restaurant there.

I was unable to reach the owner, but I intend to keep trying. When I know more, I will let you know.

Until next week, I bid you au revoir.
