The Eagles (24-22 overall, 5-10 Southern Conference) are looking to extend their four-game winning streak in which they averaged more than 10 runs and 11 hits per game. The upcoming SoCon series also could play a big factor in getting back into the league race as Georgia Southern stands in eighth place, seven games behind first place College of Charleston.
Much of the recent success can be attributed to the bats getting hot again. Junior Jeremiah Parker extended his hitting streak to a personal-best 11 games following the two wins over Georgia State. In that span he’s hitting .452 with 13 runs scored, 13 RBI and six doubles. Sophomore Will Southwell started the last three games and is hitting at a .500 clip (7-14) with six runs scored.
Chris Shehan leads the offensive attack with 38 RBI, 44 runs scored and eight home runs, in addition to his 14 doubles and 11 stolen bases. The sophomore third baseman is hitting at a .321 clip. Senior Mike Economos also ranks among the team leaders recording 37 RBI, 15 doubles, six home runs and 35 RBI. Sophomore Matt Miller owns a .385 average over the past 12 games, with 11 runs scored and 12 RBI. He hit his team-leading 16th double earlier this week and leads the team drawing 25 walks.
Sophomore Drew Murray, junior Aaron Eubanks and freshman Brian Wilkerson are scheduled to pitch. Murray is 3-6 with a 4.96 ERA in 61.2 innings, striking out a team-leading 54 batters. Eubanks (1-2, 4.10) owns the best ERA among the starters in league play at 3.47. Wilkerson is looking to end a six-game losing streak, entering the contest 4-7 with a 5.43 ERA in 68 innings. Senior A.J. Battisto owns a 2-0 record and recorded a team-leading six saves.
Wofford (21-21, 4-11) owns a .307 team batting average, .956 fielding percentage and 7.11 ERA. Brandon Waring leads the offense hitting .403 with 55 runs scored, 11 doubles, 17 home runs and 42 RBI. Shane Kirkley knocked 11 doubles and 12 home runs. Four Terriers have driven in at least 40 runs.
Austin Redwine (4-3, 6.65), Ben Austin (8-3, 3.33) and Zack Parmer (3-1, 7.33) are scheduled to start this weekend.
