Local Roundup - Eagles move soccer opener

    Georgia Southern's 2011 men's soccer home opener against North Florida has moved 181 miles to Jacksonville, Fla. The change, announced Wednesday by coach Kevin Kennedy, makes the match against Presbyterian College Sept. 14 the new home opener.
    The Eagles will play two exhibition games prior to the start of the regular season at Eagle Field at Erk Russell Athletic Park. Georgia Southern faces USC Aiken on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. and Lander Sunday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m.

GSU cancels volleyball camp
    The Georgia Southern volleyball coaches have announced a change to the camp schedule. The individual camp has been canceled, but the rookie and team camps will still be held.
    The rookie camp is a new offering and is for all beginners who want to learn the basics of volleyball. The one-day event is set for July 18 and will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
    The July 23-25 team camp is dedicated to skill development within the framework of the team's offense and defense. Camp instructors will be available to evaluate your team and design a system to take advantage of your team's strengths.
    A minimum of eight players per team is required and the camp includes shirt and entry fee for July 25 team competition.
    First coach is free each additional coach is $100.
    There will also be a team competition on July 25.
    Teams will be given the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming season using a round-robin format which will provide plenty of competition.

Hennon hosting baseball camps
    Georgia Southern coach Rodney Hennon and the Eagles are hosting the Eagle Baseball Kids Day Camp July 11-14 at J.I. Clements Stadium.
    The camp will be open to children ages 6-12 and will run from 9 a.m. to noon daily.
    The camp will cost $130 and cover all baseball skill sets.
