SEB, Screven play for seeding

BROOKLET – After one of the biggest and most memorable wins in school history, the Southeast Bulloch baseball team still has one more game to go before it can get the state playoff party started.
The Yellow Jackets (18-6) host Dublin at 6 p.m. tonight in a one-game playoff before both teams proceed to the Georgia High School Association state tournament. Tonight’s winner will earn the No. 3 seed out of Region 3-AA while the loser will be the No. 4 seed.
This matchup didn’t seem so likely for SEB six and two-thirds innings into their game with Bleckley County Monday.
In the decisive game of a three-game series, the Jackets trailed the Royals 8-4 with two outs in the final inning before rallying for five runs to come away with the victory.
Now, SEB will need to be just as determined in order to get past the Fighting Irish and earn a more favorable road in the state tournament.
“I can’t say enough about this team,” said SEB coach Brandon Peterson. “They never quit. This is a team that believes in itself and in each other. They keep fighting and they never think that they’re out of any game.”
Dublin advanced to tonight’s matchup with a sweep of Swainsboro in their three-game series Saturday afternoon.
Tonight’s winner will travel to Region 1-AA No. 2 seed Berrien. The loser will have a date with Region 1-AA champion Cook County. All state playoff matchups are three-game series.
“I know this is new for all of our guys, but we’re going to keep things the same,” said Peterson. “When we do all of the little things right, we’re winning games. The games mean more now, but everything is the same. If we can stay consistent, we should be alright.”

SCHS goes for Region 3-AA title
After an 0-5 start to the season, not many saw this coming.
Screven County was able to shake off its early demons, rolling to a 7-1 record in Region 3-AA play and now standing just one win away from a region title and a No. 1 seed in the GHSA state playoffs.
The Gamecocks (11-12) took the ‘B’ sub-region crown with a win over Southeast Bulloch last week and — after a tough series against East Laurens that went all three games — now face ‘A’ sub-region champ Dodge County for a No. 1 seed in the state tournament.
The Indians had a lighter road into tonight’s matchup, easily sweeping Laney in its region playoff.
