    The Southeast Bulloch Lady Yellow Jackets didn't get a single first-place finish at the Region 3-AA track and field finals on Tuesday.
    They didn't have to.
    The Jackets qualified for the GHSA state championships in 10 events and qualified for two spots in the region finals of each event as they took home the Region 3-AA title with 156 points — 49 more than second-place Laney (97).
    Second-place finishers and state qualifiers for the Lady Jackets were Chelsea Oglesby (shot put), Jordan McKeehan (pole vault), Philicia Batton (high jump, 100-meter hurdles), Brianna Gates (long jump, 100-meter dash), and Dineshia Baker (triple jump, 400).
    Also finishing in second place were both relay teams.
    the 4x100-meter relay team was Gates, Baker, Nira Byrd and Jerika Budgett, and the 4x400 team was Gates, Baker, Byrd and Katie Neville.
    The Screven County Lady Gamecocks qualified for state in five events at the meet — discus, 1600, 3200 (Cas Austin), 800 (Yana Felton) and 100 hurdles (Nancey Price.
    The Southeast Bulloch boys team placed fourth at the Region 3-AA finals.
     David Johnson qualified for state with second-place finishes in shot put and discus, and his brother Jamal Johnson won discus and finished third in shotput.
    Also qualifying for state were Terrell Paulson, who finished second in the 400, and Bodie Collins, who placed second in the 300 hurdles.
    For Screven County, which finished in second place behind Laney,  the gamecocks qualified in six events. Devaughn Bryant won the 800 and 1600, and Darius Wright finished second in the 100 and 200.
    The Gamecocks also qualified in the high jump and the long jump.

Screven girls advance to quarterfinals
    BLACKSHEAR — The Pierce County Lady Bears may have been the Region 1-AA tennis champions, but that didn't stop Screven County.
    In fact, it didn't even slow the No. 2 seed Lady Gamecocks (21-3) down.
    Screven powered past Pierce County with a 5-0 win on the road Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the GHSA Class AA state playoffs, and did it without dropping a set.
    Screven will face the winner between Morgan County and Barrien.
    Singles winners for SCHS were Sydnee Weaver (6-2, 6-1), Lovey Sheppard (6-2, 6-4) and Kelsey Forehand (6-1, 6-1).
    Lauren Bazemore and Lauren Thomas had the most dominating performance, sweeping their doubles match 6-0, 6-0.
    Evan Blackburn and Hailey mock won, 6-4, 6-4.

SHS holding golf fundraiser
    The 21st Annual Statesboro High School Golf Tournament will be held at Forest Height Country Club on May 9 with a 2 p.m. Shotgun start.
    It will be a four-man scramble.  
    Forest Height members   can participate for $80. The cost is $90 for non-members.

Mini-Trotters coming to SEB
    BROOKLET — The American Mini-Trotters, a traveling basketball team with one tall player and four players under 4-feet tall, will put on an exhibition Saturday, May 7 at 6 p.m. on campus at Southeast Bulloch.
    The event is sponsored by the boys basketball team.
    Tickets can be purchased for $8 in advance or $10 at the door the night of the game.

GSU hoops banquet tickets for sale
    The Georgia Southern men's basketball team will host its 2010-11 end-of-season banquet Saturday, April 30, at the Bishop Field House starting at 6:30 p.m.
    The annual event will take a look back at the season and will be hosted by “The Voice of the Eagles” Chris Blair of the GSU Radio Network.
