Local Roundup: Screven Gamecocks take Game 3

SYLVANIA — The Screven County Gamecocks struggles to get anything going until the fourth inning, but the floodgates opened to the tune of six runs in the frame as SCHS (11-12) took Game 3 over East Laurens, 8-3, to advance to the Region 3-AA title game Monday.
Dawson Oglesby, just as the two pitchers in Saturday's doubleheader had, pitched a complete game.
He struck out seven and walked only two, allowing five hits and two earned runs by the Falcons.
The big fourth inning started with small ball.
The Gamecocks went without a hit for three innings, and finally got the scoring started when Austin Peel laid down a squeeze bunt to drive in Jonathan Long to tie the score at 1-1.
Bailey Pollock drove in a run with a single, and Patrick Scarboro drove in two more with an RBI single of his own.
Kameron Oliver capped the big inning with another RBI single.
Chandler Johnson hit a solo home run in the fifth, and Scarboro added another RBI with a single in the sixth.
The Gamecocks will play for the Region 3-AA championship Friday against Dodge County. The winner will receive the No. 1 seed in the GHSA Class AA state playoffs.
Southeast Bulloch, which defeated Bleckley County Monday, will host Dublin either Thursday or Friday to determine whether it will receive the No. 3 or No. 4 seed.

Miles gets 2nd straight PotW honor
SPARTANBURG, S.C. — For the second-consecutive week, Georgia Southern pitcher Allie Miles has been named Southern Conference Pitcher of the Week.
The honor, for games played April 18-24, is the third this season for Miles. The freshman has not allowed an earned run in her last 25.0 innings of work, dating back to April 9.
Miles struck out a career-high 15 batters in Friday night's six-inning 8-0 win over UNC Greensboro. That total ranks third on the Georgia Southern single-game list and was two shy of tying the school record. Miles picked up two wins against the Spartans, allowing three hits in 10 innings.
The Eagles close out the regular season this weekend on the road against Chattanooga.
The three-game SoCon series begins on Saturday (April 30th) with a 6 p.m. game. Georgia Southern concludes the regular-season on Sunday, May 1st, at Noon for a doubleheader at Chattanooga's Frost Field.
