Bulloch schools' Strickland to join OTC

"I could not be more pleased with the search committee's recommendation of Dr. Strickland," Cartee said. "With her background in both secondary and post secondary education and her reputation for providing quality instruction and services to the Bulloch County School System, she will be fully capable of moving Ogeechee Tech's instructional division to the next level."
Strickland has served as superintendent for the Bulloch County School System since 2003. She announced her plans to resign from that position in February, saying she wanted time to "do some other things."
Her resignation from Bulloch County is effective June 30.
"I would like to thank Dr. Cartee and the internal search committee for placing their confidence in me by offering me a wonderful opportunity to help Ogeechee Tech's students and service area," Strickland said.
"I have a background that includes vocational instructional programs, and having the opportunity to provide laser focus on instruction at this level is a great opportunity for me."
Among Strickland's responsibilities will be to oversee the instructional programs including the adult literacy programs, for the campus in Statesboro as well as ones in Screven and Evans counties. She'll also oversee the library services and all components of program accreditation.
One of her major responsibilities will be to help guide the school though its efforts to achieve accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
"This position is critical to us now because of our move towards SACS accreditation," Cartee said. "You don't want someone in this position who doesn't have experience in that area and who doesn't intend to stay with you though the entire process because it's a five to seven year process."
Strickland will replace Dr. Gary Norsworthy, who is retiring from the school on May 1.
"I can not imagine anyone more qualified for this post," Cartee said. "Dr. Strickland will bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm that can only serve to improve the quality of education OTC provides its students."
