AOTW: Rocker shooting his way to top

Jones dominating the competition

Mark Rocker is striving to play golf at the next level. If he continues to play the way he’s been playing this season, that dream may become a reality.
“He’s worked real hard at his game,” said Bulloch Academy coach Chandler Dennard. “He still has some areas that need improving, but if he stays focused, he’s got a great chance to play at the next level.”
Rocker, a junior, has been the low medalist for BA in four of the six tournament’s the Gators have been in this season. He’s finished second in one of the other two.
“I think my game is about as good as it’s going to get right now,” said Rocker of the recent success. “I’m hitting the ball solid and having fun. I don’t think golf is worth playing if you’re not having fun.”
Rocker added he felt the Gator team has gotten better each week and will continue to do so.
Rocker’s strong point is the long game, and he and the Gators will look to keep improving  on Thursday April 12 when BA hosts a multi-team match at 2 p.m.

Jones dominating competition
For the third straight year, Claxton’s Endya Jones finished No. 1 in points at Southeast Bulloch’s Plankenhorn Invitational.
Jones finished second in the long jump, first in the high jump, second in the triple jump and first as part of the 400-meter relay team and 1600-meter relay team.
Add all that to the fact Jones is integral part of the Lady Tiger basketball team and you get one of the best athletes in the area.
“She’s a fantastic athlete,” said CHS track coach Joy Daughtry. “Quite frankly, she may be the best athlete on our team.”
Daughtry convinced Jones to join the track team as a freshman, promising her she wouldn’t have to do that much running. It was a good move as Jones hold school records in the triple jump (35-5 1/2), high jump (5-2) and long jump (16-9).
“She has a great work ethic and she’s very pleasurable to coach and to be around,” added Daughtry.
