    The Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets defeated Jefferson County 12-8 Friday in subregion play.
    Eli Page got the win on the mound.
    Aaron Rowe belted in three runs, and Tyler Epps and Gage Weaver each finished with two RBIs.
    The Jackets resume action Tuesday against Swainsboro.

JV Jackets sting Claxton
    The Southeast Bulloch junior varsity Yellow Jackets cruised Saturday to a 13-1 win over Claxton.
    They return to the diamond Thursday against Bryan County at 4 p.m.
    The varsity teams face off following the JV game.

UNCG drops Lady Eagles
    The Georgia Southern women’s tennis team (8-10, 2-7 Southern Conference) extended four of its six singles matches to a third set, but only one set went in the Eagles’ favor.         The Spartans clinched victories in the other three matches for a 6-1 win Friday afternoon at Hanner Tennis Complex. UNC Greensboro (12-4, 7-0 SoCon)  came into the match with a share of the Southern Conference lead.
    The Eagles picked up set wins at No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 singles to force final sets in those contests. The Spartans would take the final set on three of the four courts, including a win at the No. 2 spot, to clinch the match.   
    Melanie Rolle was the lone Eagle to win in singles action. After losing the first set, Rolle came back to win the last two sets 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 3 position.
    Georgia Southern closes out the regular season today, when the Eagles travel to Cullowhee, N.C., for a noon matchup against Western Carolina.

GSU cheer wins NCA national title
    DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Georgia Southern’s all-girl cheerleading team picked up its second national championship at the 2011 National Cheerleaders Association/National Dance Alliance (NCA/NDA) Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in Daytona Beach, Fla. Both the All-Girl and Coed squads competed Thursday and Friday, April 7-8, with the title going to the Eagle All-Girl team Friday night.
    In the division, Georgia Southern’s All-Girl team posted an 8.804 score to take the top honor over 20 other teams. Captains Bethany Burton and Janee Demery were freshmen on the team that won the first All-Girl Cheerleading national championship for Georgia Southern in 2008.
    The Eagles’ Coed squad recorded its highest finish to date in the competition in only its second trip to the finals. UTEP won the title with just .037 points of separation between the Miners and Eagles.
    More than 250 teams in 28 division categories competed for a national title with teams judged on their high-energy routines that include partner stunts, pyramids, tumbling, cheer and dance.
Tryouts for the 2011-2012 edition of the All-Girl and Co-ed squads will be held May 20-22, 2011 at the Hanner Complex on the campus of Georgia Southern
