Police: Four arrested in illegal Xanax ring

Text Size: Small Large Medium
Plans to illegally obtain Xanax and sell the prescription drug landed four people in jail, and further arrests could be pending, police said.
The arrest of  Justin L. Guay, 19, Lanier Drive, whom police said tried to obtain 60 Xanax pills using fraudulent means at Eckerd drug store last Thursday, led to an investigation that put three more suspects behind bars, said Statesboro Police Capt. L. W. Williams.
Susan Wallace, 33; Megan Reese, 19; David Savarese, 33; and Guay, all listed as having Lanier Drive addresses, were charged with conspiracy to distribute Xanax, fraudulently obtaining a controlled substance, felony destruction of evidence and giving false statements, he said.
When Guay tried to obtain the drugs, a pharmacist discovered the prescription was fraudulent and called police, he said. Advanced Patrol Officer Todd Olsen arrested Guay, took him back to the police station, and notified Det. Robert Bryan, who launched an investigation, Williams said.
Bryan learned the other three suspects were involved and issued warrants for their arrests as well as a search warrant for Wallace's home. Investigators found "numerous fraudulent prescriptions that these subjects passed at multiple local pharmacies," he said.
The suspects used "false names and false identification to obtain the Xanax, which was then sold to other subjects in Statesboro," he said.
The case remains under investigation and other arrests are possible, he said.
