Long-time Statesboro Kiwanis Club past president Bill Cheshire was honored recently during the club's 47th anniversary celebration. Club peers named Cheshire Kiwanian of the Year for 2007.
Last year's honoree, Barbara Price, presented the award during the program, preceding the announcement with a speech filled with clues as to the person's identity.
Cheshire, an active Kiwanian for 30 years,  is a past president of the club and a former Lt. Governor for Kiwanis Clubs in the state of Georgia.  Cheshire has been involved in most of the club's various  committees, chairing many of them.  Having served on the Fair Committee for several years, he is actively involved in the planning and operation of the Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair.
The Statesboro Kiwanis Club donates to numerous charities, organizations and programs within the community, funding the donations through the annual Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair held each October.
In addition to Cheshire's honor, three other club members were recognized for outstanding club involvement.
James Deal, Sylvia Brown, and Darrell Colson were presented with George F. Hixon Fellowships . To be selected for this distinguished award, a Kiwanian must be in good standing for a number of years, be active in club activities and committees, and serve in various leadership roles.  The Statesboro Kiwanis Club currently has 22 members that been awarded a Hixon Fellowship.
Other club members were honored for various achievements, including perfect attendance.
