      I'm sure this isn't a surprise to very many of you, but there is an immense interest as to when the Cracker Barrel restaurant is going to open and how to get a job there. Located in the Statesboro Crossing retail development at the corner of the Veterans Parkway and Brannen Street, the restaurant is now very close to completion.
      A spokesperson for Cracker Barrel told me that the restaurant is slated to open or about March 7. She said that a "hiccup" along the way could result in a day or two delay, but the March date is what is being published and all hopes are that it will occur. This will be the 40th Cracker Barrel location in the state.
      I know that a lot of people are interested in applying for a job with the restaurant, so I have the following details for you. The company is planning on receiving applications and interviewing beginning Feb. 7.
      The spokesperson said that applicants can certainly come to the restaurant on that date and pick up an application, or fill one out online. The average staff of a Cracker Barrel is 103 employees, and it is anticipated that the Statesboro restaurant will have a staff approximately that large.
      To find an online application, go the company's website (, then to locations, new store openings, and now hiring at the very bottom of the page.
       Now for the other new restaurant that is being built in the same vicinity. Southern Bread, LLC managing partner Rich Connolly told me that the Panera Bread restaurant his company is building in Buckhead Crossing, is on schedule for a spring opening as well.
      "Once we get a little closer to completion, we will be hiring," he said. "I anticipate that we will advertise in the newspaper in addition to on site signage. Also, those that are interested can apply online."
