John Bressler - Accept God's plan for you: There is no mystery

John Bressler

A Florida friend said to me, "Be what you is, because if you try to be what you ain't, then you ain't what you is." If that doesn't smack of poetry, I don't know what does.
Anyway — or is it anyhow — last week, an article from the Associated Press shouted, "Give me back my sign!" It seems that a horoscope believer thought she was a Capricorn and has been told by the gurus of the star signs she is really a Sagittarius. How dare they! While I will step out on a limb and say that I have grave doubts about anything that resembles a honey-do list from the stars, I do know I am a Gemini. That means — and it is in writing so it must be true — I am witty, handsome, charming, intelligent and have great legs. Who could possibly argue with that?
This grave news about changing star signs caused panic among the Zodiacers. One remarked that she isn't what she thought she was and another, who goes by the name "Moonrabbit", could only stare.
Please! I am not poking fun at those who have fun with following the stars and would like to believe they have a certain amount of control by following an astrological map down life's road. In fact, that's not a lot different than those who wear lucky socks or a power tie to an important business meeting; or wear clothing of a certain color, or decorate their home in Fung Sui style because it's good for one's karma. There is no question that having a certain amount of knowledge of what the day may bring can give a lot of comfort to those who feel they are at the mercy of unforeseen circumstances over which they have no control.
Folks, we did not get a contract or a road map about our lives at birth. If so, mine was lost in the shuffle. There is no question that I am a product of my genetic disposition, my culture and my surroundings. With a certain amount of education, I can improve my knowledge and thinking processes, but probably can't make any adjustments when it comes to how my brain functions. With considerable training, I might play better golf but will never hit the ball with the consistency or remarkable distance expected from the professionals.
When it comes to everyday life, I truly have no control over every activity, unless I live in a cave isolated from the world, because true living means to constantly interact with the untold millions and millions of activities created by other individuals that will impact us both positively and negatively.
There may be something to what is called "Chaos Theory" which roughly and loosely means if a butterfly flaps its wings in Hong Kong, there will be a storm in Brooklet next week. I said, "roughly and loosely."
Hang on, folks. We do have control! It is how I meet and deal with life that gives me hope and possibility. I know and believe that God is on my side. I know and believe that God will not give me more than I can handle. I know and believe that God works for good in the lives of those who believe and trust in Him.
That being the case, I live by faith. I do not rely on star signs, crystal balls, omens, luck or dreams to guide my day.
You can choose to accept God's plan for you: there is no mystery, no hidden secret, no private revelation. It's all in His Book. Begin with John 3:16-17.
Today? It's going to be a great day!
