Tech’s game set for 12:25 p.m. Friday
ATLANTA — Georgia Tech on Monday drew an early start time for its NCAA tournament first-round game against UNLV on Friday in Chicago.
The game time at the United Center, announced Monday, will be 12:25 p.m. EDT.
If Tech wins the opener, it will play its second-round game on Sunday at 2:35 p.m. against the winner of No. 2 seed Wisconsin’s game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
UNLV is the No. 7 seed and Tech drew a No. 10 seed in the Midwest Regional. The regional semifinals and final will be played in St. Louis beginning on March 23.
Georgia Tech was relieved on Sunday to receive the NCAA invitation. Tech (20-11) is coming off a first-round loss in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament that left Hewitt worried.
‘‘I’m glad we’re in,’’ Hewitt said Sunday.
‘‘I’m not sure what the deciding factor was, but seeing some of the teams that were left out, I’m sure it was very close. We’re grateful for the opportunity, and we’re getting ready to play against a very well-coached team in UNLV. Lon Kruger is one of the best coaches in the country.’’
UNLV (28-6) is coming off a victory over No. 23 BYU in the Mountain West Conference championship game in Las Vegas on Saturday night. Kruger is the former coach of the Atlanta Hawks and the University of Florida.

Georgia, Georgia Tech land bids
ATLANTA — The Georgia and Georgia Tech women each received bids to the Dallas regional of the NCAA tournament on Monday night.
The Lady Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets will play back-to-back first-round games Saturday in Minneapolis. If each team wins two games, Tech and Georgia would meet in a regional semifinal game in Dallas on March 25.
The 13th-ranked Georgia women (25-6) earned their 24th invitation to the NCAAs.
