Local Roundup: Panthers take down Montgomery

    Mt. VERNON — The Portal Panthers stayed unbeaten Tuesday as they went on the road and knocked off Montgomery County 60-53 in the Region 3W-A opener.
    Portal (4-0, 1-0) was led in scoring by Corey Reese, who finished with a game-high 19 points.
    Stacey Morgan added 17 and Jamie Hagins finished with 14.
    Montgomery was led by Jamar Snead and Brian Byrd, with 16 points.
    The Panthers come home Friday when they host Metter in a cross-region matchup.
    The girls play at 6 p.m. and the boys game will follow at 7:30 p.m.
