Man flees, rams patrol car

During a chase, a man crashed into a Bulloch County Sheriff's patrol car in an attempt to escape arrest, said Bulloch County Sheriff Chief Deputy Gene McDaniel.
The ploy didn't work.  Miguel Deangelo Hughes, 26, Moore Road, Portal, racked up 14 charges during the ordeal, including aggravated assault with a motor vehicle.
Bulloch County Sheriff's Deputy Reynaldo Rodriguez tried to stop Hughes around 11:30 p.m. Friday on Cecil Cassidy Road after clocking him at a high rate of speed, according to Bulloch County sheriff Lynn Anderson. "When the deputy turned on his blue lights,  the vehicle sped up and began to flee."
McDaniel said the chase eventually slowed to "40 to 45 miles per hour" and Hughes "bumped" Rodriguez' patrol car. Rodriguez then called for backup, and other deputies joined the chase, using "several techniques to stop the vehicle."
When deputies tried to box Hughes in using their patrol cars, Hughes tried to pass Rodriguez and swerved, striking the patrol car, Anderson said.
Rodriguez regained control of the patrol car but Hughes "spun out"  and the car came to a halt. Hughes fled on foot, but deputies pursued him and he was brought under control by use of a Taser, McDaniel said.
Hughes, who is being held without bond in the Bulloch County Jail, is charged with the following: aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, fleeing/attempt to elude officers, obstruction, habitual violator, reckless driving, speeding, improper U-turn, striking a foxed object, passing on the shoulder of the road, open container, failure to signal a turn or lane change, improper turn, failure to maintain lane, improper stopping on roadway.
No one was injured in the incident, Anderson said.
