Candler Community Harvest is set for Nov. 13

METTER - A Candler County community harvest celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The free event, sponsored by the Candler County Chamber of Commerce, Young Farmers, and Farm Bureau, is an annual celebration and appreciation for the agriculture industry, which is still one of the largest industries in the county, said Randy Lanier, a member of the Chamber agriculture committee.

The day will begin with an Antique Tractor Parade at 10 a.m. There will be exhibits of modern and antique equipment on display, and only the most daring of drivers will participate in a "Slow Tractor Race," Lanier said. Rusty Relics, a club that restores old tractors, Lanier said, will sponsor the tractor events. Children can participate in pedal tractor rides and a lawnmower driving competition as well.

The FFA will be grilling hotdogs, provided for free, and the 4-H will be operating the Pepsi trailer, Lanier said.
The 4-H group will also have a B-B shoot, and Southeastern Tech will sponsor a laser target game, he said.

Candler County Livestock Exhibitors will sponsor a petting zoo and livestock exhibit. To top off the day's events, there will be local talent providing live entertainment throughout the day, Lanier said.

The day will be packed full of events and activities, all to be held in downtown Metter, he said. Metter's central park area is located at the corner of Highways 46 and 121.
Danny Carter and Gene Waters, leaders of Young Farmers, and Billy Patterson, another member of the Chamber Ag. Committee, have also been key in planning the event, Lanier said.
