Sea Island Bank names Dawn Cartee to Board

Ogeechee Technical College president says she hopes to help ‘improve quality of life’ in Bulloch

    Dr. Dawn Cartee, president of Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro, was elected to the board of directors at Sea Island Bank, according to an announcement by Bruce Yawn, the bank’s chairman of the board.
    Cartee, who was named OTC president Jan. 1, is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions including being named one of Georgia Trend magazine's rising young executives in its annual "40 under 40" for 2005. She is a graduate of the 2003 class of Leadership Bulloch, the 2004 class of Leadership Southeast Georgia and was accepted into the 2007 class of Leadership Georgia.
    Sea Island's newest board member also has the distinction of being one of only 40 international participants invited to join the 2003 Oxford Round Table at St. Antony's College, which is affiliated with the University of Oxford in England.
    "Dawn will be a dynamic addition to our board of directors," Yawn said. "She is well-known for her vision, enthusiasm and strong leadership skills. Dawn's energetic personality is evident throughout her involvement in numerous professional and civic organizations. We're excited to have her on our leadership team."
    "Sea Island Bank has been a vibrant part of Bulloch County's economy for over 100 years," said Cartee. "I look forward to serving on the board and working with others in our business community to improve the quality of life for people in Bulloch and neighboring counties."
    Cartee earned her doctorate degree in educational administration from Georgia Southern University. She also earned an education specialist, master's of education and bachelor's degree in business administration from Georgia Southern.
    She began her career in technical education in 1991 as a marketing instructor and public relations officer at Ogeechee Tech. She later served as admissions director, registrar and vice president for student services. In 1999, she was named vice president for academic affairs at Southeastern Technical College in Vidalia, a position she held until her recent appointment as OTC's fourth president.
    Cartee has served on the board of directors for the Statesboro-Bulloch Chamber of Commerce and recently co-chaired the Bulloch County Make-A-Wish Foundation. She is a Paul Harris Fellow in the Downtown Rotary Club and has been a volunteer for the local Boys and Girls Club as well as Habitat for Humanity. Cartee and her husband, Jamey, reside in Statesboro.
