Gang activity not relegated to Statesboro

Gang activity in Bulloch County is not limited to Statesboro. The latest report of gang activity in the Portal area was at the Willow Hill Community Center Feb. 19, according to a Bulloch County Sheriff's incident report.
Lashay Harris and Nkenge Jackson Flowers called Bulloch County Sheriff's deputies Feb. 19 to report vandalism and graffiti, according to a report by Deputy Jody Deal.
Harris, visiting from Decatur, and Flowers, visiting form Freemount, Ohio, are part of the Jackson family involved in renovating the old Willow Hill School in a project aimed at preserving the Willow Hill community's history. Plans for the old school include an  African-American museum.
But when Harris and Flowers visited the school site, they found damage, Deal reported.
"Graffiti could be seen in the old cafeteria," he said. "3-Mob" was spray painted on the wall "to depict some sort of a gang sign."
Law enforcement officials have identified a street gang in the Portal area that is known as "The 3rd Mob." Graffiti has been discovered in the town of Portal in the past. The Willow Hill School is a few miles outside the city limits.
Also, graffiti was painted on a wooden fence outside, including profanity, sexual and racial slurs, but no gang signs were found outside, he said.
The offenders also broke into a vending machine and snacks taken, he said. According to the report, "these snacks were at least three years old."
