Smile, for the 'game' camera

Inv.: Scrap metal thieves caught on 'deer' photos

SYLVANIA - Three men in Screven County were arrested this week after deputies identified them in photographs, where they are pictured removing vehicle components from a man's scrap metal collection on Buttermilk Road.
A fourth man also was identified for arrest, but remains at large, said Inv. Brett Dickerson.
A homeowner came to the sheriff's office Saturday reporting that a vehicle rear end and pistons were stolen from his scrap pile, Dickerson said. The man provided photographs of four suspects that were taken by his game camera, a motion sensing camera installed on his property to take pictures of wild game, deputies said.
Little did they know that while they were manually hauling the metal off the property, the camera was snapping candid photos of their deed, he said.
Dickerson said the items were sold on the same day to a salvage yard in Screven County, where one suspect, Kyle Rollins, 23, of Burton's Ferry Highway, was arrested on Tuesday.
Antorreo Jaquan Rich, 23, of Waters Grove Road and Eric Lamont Young, 34, of Ren Kim Road were both arrested and charged Wednesday night, Dickerson said.
An outstanding warrant remains for Robert Murray, 45, he said, and the charges include criminal trespass and theft by taking of motor vehicle components.
Dickerson encourages the report of thefts by Screven citizens. He also recognized the helpful role a game camera can play and encourages other land owners to consider installing them.
"By reporting thefts, citizens can help us observe a pattern of criminal activity," he said, "which shows us where to concentrate our patrol and investigative efforts."
