ATF boosts reward in firearms theft case

CLAXTON - Up to $10,000 in reward money is now being offered for information regarding a burglary and firearms theft that occurred in early June at Kemp's Pharmacy in Claxton.
Since last week's announcement that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is offering up to $5,000 to those providing useful information leading to an arrest, the ATF said another party has offered to match that reward with an additional $5,000.
The party matching the reward is the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). Chartered in 1961, NSSF is the trade association for the firearms industry with the mission of promoting, protecting, and preserving hunting and the shooting sports.
ATF Agent Lorin Coppock said that it is typical for Shooting Sports Foundation to match the reward in a case like this one, as they are very proactive in getting illegal guns off the street.
Coppock was in Claxton Thursday, following some of the leads that already were provided about the June 12 incident.
He said some helpful information has been disclosed.
As a cooperative investigation between the ATF, GBI, Evans County Sheriff's Office, and the Claxton Police Department, investigators still seek the public's help in providing information on the subjects involved and the location of any or all of the stolen firearms.
If you have any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the persons involved, call ATF's toll-free, 24-hour hotline at 1-888-ATF-TIPS (1-888-283-8477).
      Callers can remain anonymous.
