Inside Bulloch Business with Jan Moore - Lily's, Platinum Lounge set to open in Boro

As a follow up to last week's column, here are some details about the new restaurant that will be opening on East Main, as well as the restaurant/dance club that is slated to open just off of West Main.
I stopped by and spoke with Ken Brown who was working diligently on bringing the Blue Moon location on East Main back to life as Lily's Restaurant. A new resident to Statesboro, Brown said he has been treated very warmly by those he has met here, and is appreciative of the reception.
"I cannot thank everyone enough for the kindness that has been extended to me," Brown said. "This is such a great location with a wonderful history. I am calling the restaurant Lily's after my grandmother."
Brown said he hopes to have Lily's open by the end of September. I saw Brown's menu, and lunch will include sandwiches, burgers, and salads. "The menu is American cuisine, but I do plan to add a little spice."
Brown has extensive experience in the restaurant industry including a stint as a restaurant owner.
Meanwhile, Hayward Fields is busy with the last phase of construction of the Platinum Lounge which is slated to open in the latter part of September as well. The restaurant/dance club will be located in the old "Sears" location in downtown Statesboro adjacent to Walnut Street and across from the offices of the Statesboro Herald.
"I have had my eye on this location for the last couple of years," Fields said. "Back in the spring, I was able to reach an agreement to buy the building from Garland Nesmith. Once that was done, I began to go through the process of applying for all the necessary licenses and such."
Fields has done a major renovation of the space including a lot of masonry work. "We have put in a nice kitchen, a 35 foot bar, and a large dance area," he said. "We will also have nine flat screen televisions."
Fields has owned a number of businesses, including a restaurant in the College Plaza retail center. "I have had a barber shop in College Plaza for the last 15 years," he said. "A few years ago, I opened a soul food restaurant in the space between   Curves and what used to be Goodwill in College Plaza. When my wife decided to go back to work at the bank, I just couldn't handle my construction company, the barber shop, and the restaurant, so I closed the restaurant."
Fields said the Platinum Lounge will have different hours than his restaurant did. "My restaurant in College Plaza served lunch and dinner, so it was a very long day," he said. "The Platinum Lounge will open late in the afternoon."
So, until next Tuesday, I bid you au revoir.
