Georgia Southern men’s basketball senior point guard Willie Powers suffered a right knee injury that will require surgery. Powers is expected to miss the 2010-2011 season.
Powers, a first-team All-Southern Conference selection, was the Eagles’ leading scorer in 2009-10 with a 14.7 points per game average. He led the SoCon in assists with 5.5 per game and was sixth overall in scoring. Powers also was in the top 10 in free throw percentage and in steals per game.
"Though I am disappointed, I won’t be able to be out on the court with my teammates, I’m excited about this upcoming year,” Powers said. “I’ll be there every step of the way and will help the team anyway I can.”
