Athlete of the Week: SEB's Johnson has big plans

There are many reasons that Southeast Bulloch thinks it should improve this season. David Johnson is one big one.
The 6-foot-1, 250-pounder is a powerful force on both sides of the football for the Yellow Jackets whether he is pounding the ball forward as a fullback or attacking a ball carrier as a defensive lineman.
“I like playing both ways,” said Johnson. “At fullback, it’s fun to be able to get your hands on the ball and make a few runs. It’s always fun to get to dish out the hits on defense though.”
Johnson and the rest of the Jacket defense wasted no time in showcasing their big play ability as Johnson scooped up a fumble and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown in SEB’s scrimmage against Bryan County last week.
“Everyone did their assignments on the play,” said Johnson. “I was just lucky to be the one closest to the ball, so I scooped it up. I think that everyone is playing better as a team on both sides of the ball this year.”
The Jackets will get to take the field for real Friday as SEB opens up its 2010 regular season with a trip to Panther Field to take on Portal for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
