Meeting to outline rehab center plans in Claxton

CLAXTON - An invitation was extended to the public at Claxton's City Council meeting Monday night to attend an informational meeting that is designed to enlighten and further educate the community about a proposed drug and alcohol rehabilitation center to be located in Claxton.
The meeting will be held next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Honey Bowen Building in Statesboro.
Pastor Brandon Williams of Connection Church in Statesboro said he and several others in the community visited a successful program in Bessemer, Ala., called The Foundry. The program mirrors the vision for the rehab center in the Claxton area, said Betty Hodges, who is involved with the project.
"Many people in our area have experienced and continue to experience drug/alcohol addictions, as well as other addictions," Hodges said. "Yet many struggle to overcome them with little access to an affordable on-going support system. This is not just a local problem, it is far-reaching."
Our vision is to make this something of a regional project that would extend beyond Evans County, Hodges said.
The Foundry staff has been invited to present to the community the idea behind their program and what has made it such a success.
Several community members, including Hodges, will present information about the group's plans.
Hodges requested that anyone interested in attending the Tuesday meeting email her at bettyh@bulloch.net by Friday.
