24 cats at shelter face euthanasia if not adopted Wednesday

Construction delays force cats to be moved; can be adopted or fostered

Construction delays at the new Bulloch County Animal Shelter have put a ticking clock on 24 cats that must be moved by the end of the day or face euthanasia.
The building where the cats are currently being held must be demolished to make way for the new structure, but there is currently nowhere to house the two dozen adoptable cats. Deb Kosina, spay and neuter committee chair for Humane Society of Statesboro and Bulloch County said the shelter will have no choice but to destroy the cats if homes cannot be found immediately.
Kosina said she is trying to place the cats in permanent homes, but considering the time-sensitive circumstance, she is also looking for temporary foster parents. If someone is willing to foster one or more of the cats, Kosina said they should be aware that the new cat house will take four-to-six weeks to construct.
Anyone interested in adopting or fostering one the cats should visit the shelter sometime between 1-5 p.m. today or contact Rene Durfee of Human Society Resuce at (912) 481-3365.
The Bulloch County Animal Shelter is located on Millcreek Road off of 301 North and is out by the Georgia Forestry Department and the Drivers License Bureau.
