Two arrested in armed robbery

Suspects linked to Claxton crimes

No one was shot, but Statesboro Police responding to a reported shooting Saturday met with a tangle of incidents including an armed robbery, a stolen car and a man suffering a superficial wound to the head.
The injured man, Emmanuel LaJoseph Green, 28, Claxton, suffered a blow to the head while he was trying to rob victims in Foxridge Apartments, said Statesboro Police Capt. L. C. Williams.
Police responding to the call about a shooting stopped a speeding car exiting the apartment complex and spoke to Spolinee Nyking Byrd, 18, Claxton, who told them someone had been shot. Then Green walked up, bleeding from the head, and said he had been robbed, Williams said.
Investigations revealed Green was injured while trying to rob victims at gunpoint, and that both he and Byrd were suspected in another armed robbery of a motel in Claxton the day before, he said.
Green was charged with armed robbery and cocaine possession, while Byrd was charged with marijuana possession and theft by receiving stolen property. The vehicle he was driving when an officer stopped him turned out to be one taken in a car jacking Friday, he said.
