Portal Middle advances, 48-26

    The boys basketball team of Portal Middle School advanced to the semi-finals of the regional tournament Wednesday with a 48-26 win over Claxton Middle.
    Leading scorers for the Panthers included Jamie Hagan (15), Corey Walker (12) and Tony Mikell (10).
    With the win, Portal will take on Glenville Middle Friday in Glenville at 4 p.m..
    Meanwhile, the girls team from Portal Middle will battle Glenville today at 4 p.m. for the chance to advance to the regional title game on Saturday.

SEB rifle team falls
    The rifle team of Southeast Bulloch fell to Benedictine Military Academy on Wednesday, 1,072-1,000.
    Top scorers for SEB included Cory Rodrigues (239), Melissa Bradley (265), Josh Shank (242) and Joshua Hadaway 254.
    The Yellow Jackets resume competition tonight against Brunswick High.

GSU women’s
tennis signs two
    Amy Bartlett-Bonner, head coach of the Georgia Southern women’s tennis team, has announced the signing of two recruits for the 2007-08 season.
    Ali Beavers was a member of the Dobyns-Bennett High School (Kingsport, Tenn.) 2004 and 2005 AAA Tennessee State Championship teams. Melanie Rolle was the 2006 Florida state runner-up in singles and doubles.
