When the Lady Panthers of Portal get in some trouble and need a spark off the bench, they turn to sophomore guard Kanesha Eason.
Eason, who is averaging nine points a game for 2-13 PHS, creates havoc for defenses by driving to the lane and picking up the easy layup or drawing the foul.
Eason said she does whatever’s necessary to help the team.
“Working with the team makes you want to work harder,” said Eason. “Coach ‘D’  (Earl Donaldson) always tells us you have to want it, and to play to the best of your ability you have to want to play.”
Despite Eason’s ability to score off penetration and give Portal added depth on offense, the sophomore said she enjoy’s playing defense the most.
Eason and the Lady Panthers will resume region play on Friday when they travel to Pembroke to face the Lady Redskins of Bryan County.
Eason scored five points for PHS in the team’s first meeting in Portal earlier this season. The Panthers won 35-13.

Screven County got off to a slow start this season, which was a surprise to forward Antrjuan Albright. Albright and the rest of the Gamecocks knew they had a talented team, and now that they’ve hit a few  bumps in the road, Albright said the team is starting to come together.
“We’ve definitely been coming together as a team,” said Albright. “We still have trouble finishing strong, but it’s still fun playing with the fellas because we’ve all known each other for so long.”
Screven coach Arthur Davis said Albright is a player that can put up big numbers on any given night.
“He’s a solid player that does all the things he can to help the team win,” said Davis.
The junior said his favorite part about playing basketball is one thing: winning.
The Gamecocks will continue region play when they travel to Metter Friday night. Albright will bring his 12.9 points a game into the contest as SCHS looks to continue to battle for the region 3-AA crown.
