First Friday to feature Taste of Downtown

First Friday Downtown tonight will feature the annual Taste of Downtown presented by Main Street Statesboro. There will be the usual First Friday activities on Siebald Street — balloon bouncers, vendors, musicians, and visual artists, but this time, there is a little more.
People can purchase a $5 ticket to participate in a Taste of Downtown, which is presented by local chefs from various merchants in Statesboro.
The progressive appetizer event is back by popular demand and will have even more vendors than the first Taste of Downtown in March. The First Friday event runs from 5:30-8:30 p.m. and the tasty treats can be found inside each of the participating retailer's businesses.
An information booth will be on the courthouse lawn where tickets for the event will be sold. Tickets will include a map of participating businesses and restaurants.
At the Averitt Center for the Arts, there will be lots of activity throughout the building. The Emma Kelly Theater will have new drama instructor, Betty Franklin, in a little improv.     Franklin will perform “Love Scenes on the Sidewalk.”
The Main Gallery offers the Statesboro Regional Art Association's exhibit one last time.     On the third floor, the Youth Gallery will feature Mattie Lively instructor Dwight Miller and Mill Creek instructor Heather Gonzales.
Also, in the Multi-Purpose Studio you can meet Dr. Karl Peace, author of “Paid in Full.” Dr. Peace will sign his poignant autobiography about growing up in Baker County, Ga. Proceeds from the sale of the book go towards funding programs of the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University.
Finally, Everitt Robertson, owner of Mainstreet Billiards, presents one of his comedy shows in the Emma Kelly Theater. Friday night's show features headliner Kool Bubba Ice from the Apollo Comedy Hour, Def Jam or Comedy Network. Also Sylvia and Barbara Carlyle have become popular regulars in these shows which always promise lots of laughter. Tickets may be purchased at the Emma Kelly Theater or Mainstreet Billiards.
