'Friday Night Live' returns

Phil Boyum, left, and Don Wilson bring you all the action from Friday Night Live in Bulloch County.

It will be a glorious evening for football tonight when Statesboro opens the 2009 season against Josey at Womack Field.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the Blue Devils are expecting a large and loud crowd to give them an even bigger home field edge over the visiting Eagles. But if you can't make it to Womack, the Statesboro Herald and BoroLive.com will premiere the second season of “Friday Night Live.”
Go to the statesboroherald.com Web site, click on the News Alert for the Statesboro-Josey broadcast and you can watch the Blue Devils play Josey live over the Internet. Statesboroherald.com is the only Web site in Georgia broadcasting live high school football.
It will be the first of nine “Friday Night Live” regular season games. All Bulloch County schools will be featured in at least one broadcast. The schedule is still being finalized, but look for a local school to play live each week.
“We know nothing's better than watching a high school game in person - sitting in the stands,” said Randy Morton, publisher of the Herald. “We've made some technical improvements this year that I think will improve the live stream and make the broadcast easier to watch. I really want to thank Statesboro principal Marty Waters, athletic director Ken LeCain and coach Steve Pennington for working with us to make 'Friday Night Live' possible.”
Also, coming back for a second year is the announcing duo of Don Wilson and Phil Boyum. Wilson handles the play-by-play, while Boyum offers analysis of game action. Mike Anthony, the Statesboro Herald's prep sports writer, will be part of the broadcast with insight into the action and game statistics.
The “Friday Night Live” pre-game show begins at 7:10 p.m., with the kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
“Watching these young men and these fine coaches is a lot of fun,” Wilson said. “I get to watch high school football every Friday night. What could be better than that?”
