$500,000!!

It seems the intersection of Northside Drive and North Main Street is the luckiest crossroads in Statesboro.
Tuesday morning, a local woman won $500,000 in a Georgia Lottery scratch-off game she bought at the RACO Oil convenience store located at the intersection. Three years ago, the same store sold a $1 million winning ticket and two years ago, the BP station across the street also sold a $1 million Lottery ticket.
Ketul Patel, an employee at RACO, said he didn’t know the woman’s name who won, but said he recognized her since she came into the store every so often.
Kimberly Lundy, a spokeswoman with the Georgia Lottery offices in Atlanta, said as of Tuesday afternoon no one had stepped forward with a winning $500,000 ticket. She said the winner’s name would be released once the ticket is presented and confirmed genuine.
Patel said the woman bought a single $10 Jumbo Jumbo Bucks scratch-off game ticket, with the top prize of $500,000, and played it in the store.
“She was very happy, when she found out she won,” Patel said. “She called all her family and we had 15 cars in our parking lot in about five minutes. They all celebrated right there. It was nice to see.”
Tuesday’s $500,000 ticket is actully the fourth huge lottery jackpot won in Bulloch County during the past four years. Portal couple Tonya and Bobby Harris won the biggest prize of all – a $275 million Mega Millions game payoff they won in February 2008.
