With their non-conference schedule behind them, the Eagles turn their full attention towards the Southern Conference and Saturday’s opponent, Furman.
Georgia Southern snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday with an 89-68 win over Pikeville.
The victory helped erase the memories of the second half against UNC Greensboro that saw GSU shoot just 16 percent and go over 14 minutes without a field goal.
“The last game was a good confidence builder for us because we played hard the whole game,” said coach Jeff Price.  “We played the complete opposite of how we played against UNC Greensboro.  You just have to hope that there is carryover from that game.  Obviously this is a game on a different level and hopefully that effort will be there.”
The Pikeville game saw numerous career and season highs set or tied.  Senior Donte Gennie, whose 25 points were one shy of his career best, went 7-for-8 from 3-point land (new career high) and 9-for-10 overall from the floor.  He also dished out four assists.
He also stands 12 points shy of reaching 1,000 for his career.  He would be the 17th player since Georgia Southern joined Division I in 1971 to reach that total.
Furman enters Saturday at 7-6 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon and has won its last two games, including a 69-56 home victory against Chattanooga Wednesday.
“I think they’re a better team than last year because they’re more experienced,” said Price.  “They are the most experienced team in the league.”
