The Statesboro Herald is getting greener.
The Herald uses recycled newsprint for all its published products, and now, all bags used to deliver papers are not only made of recycled material, but the same bags can be recycled as well.
“We try to be good environmental citizens and we’ve been planning the switch to Eco-Cycle bags for a while,” said Darrell Elliott, circulation manager for the Herald.
Elliott said the Herald uses between 60,000 and 70,000 newspaper bags each month.
Eco-Cycle bags are made from a minimum of 20 percent and up to 70 percent post industrial and post consumer recycled materials. The bags also are recyclable.
Recycled bags are reprocessed into new products like outdoor decking and railing, construction items and grocery bags.
Eco-Cycle bags are accepted at virtually any location that accepts grocery bags. Outlets are listed at
Also, Elliott said Herald customers can recycle newspaper bags at Wal-Mart, Bi-Lo, Bulloch County Recycling Centers or by returning them to the Herald office at 1 Proctor St.
“We’re excited about the conversion to a carrier bag that is made of recycled material and can be recycled again,” said Randy Morton, publisher of the Statesboro Herald. “It’s just part of our ‘we care’ commitment to our customers and the environment.
