Text Size: Small Large Medium
Georgia State Patrol investigators are still trying to work out details  of a Saturday afternoon crash that left one woman dead and another critically injured.
Lawan Brown Faircloth, 36, Metter, was killed after being thrown from a white 2002 GMC Yukon in which she was traveling. A man who was also in the vehicle, Gaylen Thompson, 38, Ponderosa Road, Portal, was also ejected, but treated and released for injuries, said Georgia State Patrol Trooper First-Class J. B. Hodges.
The Yukon and a white 1999 Plymouth van driven by Sylvia Artis, 55, Register, collided near the intersection of Rosemary Church Road and Metter-Portal Highway, around 2:47 p.m. Saturday, he said.
Artis, who was trapped in her vehicle after the crash, was flown to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah by Life Star helicopter, suffering from critical injuries, he said.
Details of the crash are still undetermined, and both himself and Trooper First-Class Brock Scott are continuing the investigation, Hodges said.
Alcohol tests results are pending, and charges are pending, he said. Additional details will be released as the investigation unfolds.
