Girls Athlete of the Week

Carter clutch for Southeast

Text Size: Small Large Medium
Brittany Carter is used to being the go-to girl. That became even more apparent after teammate Lauren Akins suffered a broken hand on Nov. 25.
“It’s been rough without (Akins),” said Carter, a senior. “I was getting used to that partnership, so without her it’s definitely been rough.”
Carter scored 20 points on Friday night in a loss to Claxton, including nine in the fourth quarter. She then dropped 15 on five 3-pointers against region rival Westside-Augusta on Saturday, a game in which she was continually double-teamed.
Carter is currently averaging 15 points and five rebounds a game, but said she likes playing defense more than anything. Her coach said she’s been a pleasure to work with.
“(Brittany’s) a great kid to coach,” said SEB head coach Milton Williams. “She never complains and she’s a hard worker. Every time she steps on the court you know she’s going to be a hard worker without any complaint, no matter how things are going.”
