Portal Middle splits with Collins
    The Portal Middle boys basketball team defeated Collins Middle 48-8 on Wednesday night to start the season 1-0.
    Jamie Hagins scored 14 points and Tony Mikell scored 10 for the Panthers who played great team defense. Corey Walker turned in an stellar performance as well.
    In girls action, Collins topped Portal 27-23. Nikki Sims and Jalvin Jones had eight points each while Boshna Williams added seven.
    Portal will return to action Friday when they travel to Reidsville for a 4 p.m. tip.

Langston Chapel sweeps Ebenezer
    The Langston Chapel Middle School basketball teams swept Ebenezer on Wednesday night with the boys winning 36-17 and the girls winning 42-12.
    Edwin Harvey had 15 points and Devin Leech had eight for the boys. Both teams are 1-0 and face South Effingham Middle Friday at home.
