Jayson Foster got the opportunity he’s been hoping for – a shot at playing in the NFL.

The former Georgia Southern standout was offered a free-agent contract by the Miami Dolphins Sunday night immediately following the NFL draft. Foster, the NCAA record holder for rushing yards by a quarterback in a season, plans to ink the deal sometime Monday.

As the draft was winding down Sunday, Miami officials began calling Foster, who heard from Jacksonville, New Orleans and the New York Jets after he’d already committed to Miami. The Jaguars also offered a free-agent contract.

“I’m satisfied in the end because I’ll be able to play football just like everyone else who got drafted,” Foster said.

Foster is slated to fly to Miami either this week or next for a rookie mini camp. He’s excited about playing in a warm-weathered city and staying in the same geographic region as his Canton home. He’ll look to help the Dolphins as a receiver and on special teams where he can return kicks and serve as a holder.

“There are a lot of things I can do for them,” Foster said. “Looking at their draft picks, they’re dedicated to winning. They didn’t draft a lot of receivers, which is good for me.”
