Diamond Eagles host Tech

Georgia Southern University concludes a five-game homestand this afternoon, playing host to Georgia Tech at J.I. Clements Stadium.
The game will be broadcast live on CSS at 4 p.m. Matt Stewart and Randy Carroll will call the game.
The two teams were scheduled to play Tuesday night but the game was cancelled. The funeral of Georgia Tech junior pitcher Michael Hutts was held Tuesday morning in his hometown of Dunwoody. No make-up date has been announced.
Georgia Southern dropped the first two games of the series at Tech in late February, losing 11-2 and 1-0 in 10 innings. A pair of freshman right-handers are scheduled to start — Michael Hester (Evans/Greenbrier) for the Eagles and Deck McGuire for Georgia Tech.
Hester owns a 1-0 record ant 6.17 ERA in five appearances this year. His win came during his only collegiate start, a 3-1 win at North Florida.
Junior outfielder Chris Shehan (Strasburg, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) has put up All-America type numbers this season. He continues to pace the offense in: batting average (.469), runs scored (50), doubles (12), home runs (12), slugging percentage (.854), on-base percentage (.592) and walks (33). Last week Shehan was ranked among the ‘Top 11’ nationally in seven different categories.
Among the Southern Conference leaders, Shehan leads the way in batting average, total bases, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. He stands second in runs scored, tied for fourth in home runs, tied for seventh in doubles, tied fifth in stolen bases and third in walks. Phillip Porter (Marietta/Sprayberry) ranks fourth in batting average and Ty Wright (Montrose/West Laurens) is eighth at .398 and .378, respectively. Griffin Benedict (Dunwoody/St. Pius) is tied with Shehan for third recording 47 RBI. Jeremy Beckham (Griffin/Griffin) ranks second in stolen bases, successful 19-of-22 times. Blake Nation (Brooks/Starr’s Mill) is tied for third with five saves.
Georgia Tech is coming off an emotional series loss to top-ranked Miami — falling 10-5, 15-5 and 9-3. Luke Murton leads the offensive attack at .343 with 10 doubles and 23 RBI. Charlie Blackmon is at .341 with three triples, four homers, 12-of-15 stolen bases and 11 hit by pitches. Derek Dietrich has 11 doubles and a team-leading 10 home runs to go with his 34 RBI. McGuire remains undefeated (5-0) with a 3.24 ERA in 41.2 innings. Opponents are batting just .192 off him.
