Police: Man rapes 14-year-old in car

Christy Leggett

A man raped a teenage girl in the back seat of a car while another woman drove them around the Portal area, investigators said.
Prince Jonathan Cox, 29, U.S. 80 West, Portal is charged with rape and child molestation, said Bulloch County Sheriff's Investigator Walter R. Deal.
And Christy Leggett, 25, Keller Street, Blackshear, is charged with giving false statements and writings, obstruction and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, he said.
The 14-year-old girl was with Leggett, whom Deal said has lived in the Portal area and is a friend of the teen's family, Saturday afternoon when they met with Cox, he said.
The girl sat with Cox in the back seat of the car while Leggett drove them around the Pecan Grove and U.S. 80 West area, he said.
Cox and the teen were engaged in kissing and other intimate activity while Leggett drove, Deal said, repeating what the teen told investigators. But then, the physical activity led to sexual intercourse, which the teen said was non consensual.
"She said she was OK with the (kissing and fondling) but she kept telling him no (regarding sex)," he said.
Regardless of whether the two had sexual intercourse, the other contact with the juvenile is considered as child molestation, he said.
Leggett told investigators she did not know what was happening in the back seat of the car she was driving, but further investigation proved that false, leading to her charges, Deal said.
After being taken into custody, Cox admitted having sex with the teenager but said he was unaware of her age, he said.
Cox and Leggett were booked into the Bulloch County Jail, where Leggett was later released on a $4,000 property bond. Cox has no bond, according to jail records.
