Severe weather possible in Bulloch area Wednesday

A line of storms similar to those that swept across Southeast Georgia Saturday is expected to head Bulloch County's way Wednesday afternoon and into the night. While the storms are not forecast to be as dangerous as the weekend weather that left two people dead in Georgia, officials urge area residents to monitor weather conditions.
A cold front is pushing the storms through and the windy, wet weather should arrive "late afternoon, early evening" in the Bulloch area, said National Weather Service meteorologist Robyn Brown, speaking from the NWS office in Charleston.
"Severe thunderstorms are possible," she said.
Tornadoes could spin off from some of those thunderstorms, according to Internet web site www.noaa.org., the official site of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Brown said the approaching line of storm cells doesn't appear to be as unstable as the group that brought multiple tornado warnings – and damaging winds – to the area Saturday.
Storm cells hovered over Portal, Rocky Ford, Hopeulikit and Statesboro and other locations as two tornado warnings, back to back, were issued for the county Saturday night. No funnel clouds, however, were reported to have touched down in the area.
But the storms Wednesday night could be dangerous, she said.
"You could have high winds of 25-30 miles per hour, with gusts up to 35 miles per hour," she said. "There will be more damaging winds than anything."
According to the NOAA web site, chance of rain is 40 percent today, increasing to 70 percent tonight.
Weather experts warn people to take cover if a tornado warning is issued. Those in stable structures should take refuge in an interior room away from windows. People living in mobile homes are advised to either seek shelter in a more solid building or lie flat in a ditch if a tornado is sighted.
